We host an exciting experience, promoting fine craftsmanship, art, design and creative enterprise. We are aware of our proximity to nature and our unique position as custodians to one of the few cape farm complexes in Plettenberg Bay that is open to the public.

We highlight the extraordinary and inspiring connections between ancient crafts, innovative manufacture and contemporary artistic design.


Our Merchants

Currently, Old Nick houses a mix of successful merchants who are closely connected with their product through design, manufacture and selection. We all promote trade within Africa and are acutely aware of supporting the local economy.

We aim to deepen the experience of all those who visit Old Nick Village through respect and opportunity to grow learn and enjoy the best we can offer.



During 2021 the Old Nick Village premises, 3ha of gardens, historic buildings are to be upgraded and re-landscaped to connect walkways, additional shops and studio spaces.



For many years the Holding family, owners of Old Nick Village and Mungo have run the two businesses in tandem.  Mungo is a unique producer of homeware textiles promoting transparency and sustainable principles in its production. Mungo’s retail shop is housed in the original trading store at Old Nick while the newly built Mill is situated next door.

Mungo is completing its Mill expansion in 2021 which will continue to invite the public to view its manufacturing process in a world-class environment, producing to its highest standards.

Repurposing to retail spaces

There are now exciting possibilities for opening up coveted additional retail areas. Spaces are to be renovated in line with the Old Nick Village aesthetic and potential tenants.

Old Museum

The ‘museum’ building is steeped in history and charm. In the day when Old Nick was a working farm, this was the wool sorting shed. It later became a store and then 20 years ago when Stuart Holding was gifted two antique looms this is where he restored them, started weaving and ultimately where Mungo was born.

It features yellow wood floors, historic doors, heavy stone foundations. A good profile from the eastern approach to the centre. Front and back patio areas and outside access to the mezzanine.

Old Stock room 

Parts of this building are very old with original rough stone walls. Sections have been added to house the old pottery studio and then a stock room. Features; the south aspect opens onto the museum area, north service entrance, the potential for open workshop space.

Formally the stables of the original farm, this very old stone building has three doors indicating that it was built for stables. Parts of the inside walls are exposed to unpainted stone.
